What If We Leave Something Out?

Some homeschooling parents fear that without an “official” Scope and Sequence to follow, they might leave out something important. They worry that someday, their children’s education will have holes in it, because they, the parents, failed to “cover all the bases”.

As stated at the beginning, no one learns everything. It just isn’t possible to learn everything there is to know, not by the time a person is 18, and not by the time they die of old age. So what to include and what to leave out is a total judgment call.

Parents should also remember that they will not be the sole source of education for their children. One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is the opportunity to educate themselves. Once they know where to look for information, and if their natural curiosity hasn’t been snuffed out by formal schooling, the sky is the limit in terms of their education.
